Lansdowne Bhoys history
Lansdowne Bhoys NY Soccer Club was formed in 1997 by Kevin Madden and after a successful opening season the club changed hands in 1998 when Eamon Duffy took over as president and manager. The Club is now run by William McGrory (President) and Aiden Corr (Vice-President) and Managed by Austin Friel ex Finn Harps Player.
Lansdowne Bhoys has been an ever present in the Cosmopolitan Men’s Soccer League since 1997, each year the club has been steadily building enjoying success and gaining entry to the Premier section of the Cosmopolitan League in 2002.
Since 2002 Lansdowne Bhoys NY has set up a reserve team to accompany the First team which shows the steady building of the soccer club.
In 2011 the club has introduced a 3rd team to play in the cosmopolitan Soccer League and in their first season they were crowned champions of their division.
Lansdowne boys NY has just set up a youth academy and will participate in the Westchester Youth Soccer League in the fall 2012 season.
We have ambitions to set up girls and boys teams from u-8 to u-17 for our local community. Lansdowne Bhoys NY feel we are ready to commit to the Westchester Youth Soccer League and we have a good home base in Tibbett’s Brooke Park in which our senior clubs have been playing since 2003.
We have Uefa recognized soccer coaches Austin Friel and Stephen Roche Ex League of Ireland and Irish League Players, so we feel weare well equipped to handle the work commitments of a youth Academy.
The past season 2011-2012 has been our most successful to date, our 3rd team won their league on their debut season, our reserves were beaten in their state cup final, and our first team won their conference and were beaten in their league final on penalties.
This shows that our club is on the rise and we have built a steady foundation throughout the years and now we feel it’s time to expand further.
We offer a good club base for the children of Yonkers and beyond and parents in the local area have been pressurizing us into making this step for the past few years, we feel we are now ready and have the correct foundations in place to make this step and set up this academy.
As a club we feel we have a good Structure in place for all kids starting off in soccer, we have an ambition for all kids to start off in our academy and continue to play for our club right up to senior level in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League.
We have good ties to Colleges in New York And Washington, so we feel we can prepare the kids for this journey and prepare them the best we can for college.
Regards
Austin Friel
